Welcome to the Texas Statewide Family Medicine Preceptorship Program.

Born in 1980 through a cooperative effort between all of the Texas medical schools, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the TSFMPP has placed nearly 5,400 clinical students and over 4,000 pre-clinical students in the offices of Texas family physicians. Over 700 physicians from every corner of the state have generously volunteered to give one to ten months each year to train our future physicians.

Many students cite their participation in the TSFMPP as a pivotal experience in their medical school career, and an invaluable opportunity to work one-on-one with an experienced family doctor, community leader and mentor. The continued success of the program and the increase in students choosing family medicine as a career attests to the effectiveness of the Texas Statewide Family Medicine Preceptorship Program.

Please peruse the information provided on this website, and if you have questions about the program not answered here, please contact us. The program is being administered by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
